Cable ONE Chromebook Donation Bridges Technology Gap at Lewis and Clark Elementary in Fargo

Lewis and Clark Elementary School will be equipped with new Chromebooks this fall as the result of a Cable ONE initiative designed to improve student access to technology in schools.

Now in its second year, the Cable ONE Cares program provides Chromebooks to Title I schools in the markets it serves.

Cable ONE Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Steve Fox said that access to technology in schools is no longer a luxury, but a necessity, and that donating Chromebooks to Title I schools will help bridge the digital divide in schools that lack funding.

“While many school systems are taking big steps and working to give every student and every teacher access to the technology and tools they need to learn, not all schools have access to funding to support this effort,” Fox said. “Because we believe so strongly in improving education through the use of technology, we want to do our part to support the communities where we live and work.”

Lewis and Clark Elementary School Principal Jason Cresap said that having access to portable technology like Chromebooks will provide teachers with greater flexibility in the classrooms.

“We are planning on using the Chromebooks in our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms for writing, research projects, and small group work,” Cresap said. “We hope to engage students further through their use of technology. Technology and computer use is a part of developing the 21st Century Skills. With the Chromebooks we will be able to engage more students through project-based learning opportunities.”

Cresap said that the Chromebooks will expose students to new technologies, enabling them to become more adept at meeting the challenges that will face them in the 21st century.

“This generous donation will allow teachers to create new, engaging projects that leverage the technology to encourage communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity in their students. It will also create new opportunities to make use of great online resources to help students at every level,” Cresap said. “We have many students whose only exposure to technology is while they are at school. With the addition of the Chromebooks we will be able to give more students the opportunities they crave. Chromebooks are a great motivator and engaging students is a vital component to preparing all of our students for success.”

Cable ONE General Manager Scott Geston said that Cable ONE is committed to strengthening and improving the communities they serve, not only through its products and services, but through support of the local community.

“Our Cable ONE associates are passionate about giving back to the community where they live and work,” Geston said. “We know that improving access to technology in our schools will improve education and benefit our community for the long term.”
